– Senior Consultant
Muru Thompson joined Mather Solutions in August 2025 and proudly brings his whakapapa from Te Rarawa, Ngāti Whātua Ōrākei, Ngāti Ruanui and Ngāruahine.
Muru has a deep understanding of Te Ao Māori, Te Tiriti o Waitangi, tikanga Māori and Aboriginal ways of knowing, doing and being. These understandings have been shaped through formal education, lived experience, and engaging with First Nations communities in Australia. He holds a Bachelor of Arts in Māori Studies and Anthropology from Waipapa Taumata Rau – The University of Auckland, where he also served in various roles for Ngā Tauira Māori (Māori Students Association) and supported Māori student success as a Kaiārahi Māori in the Equity Office.
Muru brings a strong background in strategic development, community engagement, service design, operating model design, and evaluation. He is experienced in both qualitative and quantitative research and has worked extensively across Aotearoa and Australia with iwi entities, Crown agencies, corporate clients, Aboriginal Community Controlled Organisations, and Aboriginal peak bodies.
Before joining Mather Solutions, Muru worked in Deloitte New Zealand’s Māori Services and Deloitte Australia’s Indigenous Services teams. He later joined Yamagigu Consulting, Australia’s largest First Nations-owned consulting firm, where he supported Indigenous-led solutions across justice, education, and community development. Muru has also played an active mentorship role, guiding Māori and First Nations graduates through their consulting careers.
