Puna Whakaata is a proud new member of the Mather Solutions whānau and joined us in March 2025. She is a recent graduate from Waipapa Taumata Rau, and is ready to transfer her skills and learnings into her mahi. A proud descendant from her tīpuna Paikea Ariki, she is also connected to Ngāti Tūwharetoa, Te Arawa and Ngā Paerangi.

Puna Whakaata brings a fresh and dynamic rangatahi Māori perspective, enriched by her unique upbringing on the East Coast in Whāngārā. Being raised in her kāinga, Puna Whakaata’s connection to her hapori and taiāo has shaped her understanding of the intricate social, economic and cultural dynamics of whānau and hapū. She has been immersed in her tikanga and te reo Māori by her whānau and is a proud fluent speaker, she is dedicated to tikanga Māori that continues to be a guiding pillar in her life. All in which contribute to her driven, forward-thinking and dedication towards achieving meaningful outcomes for Māori.

Puna Whakaata holds a conjoint Bachelor of Laws and Bachelor of Arts with a major in Māori studies. Puna Whakaata also demonstrated her passion for leadership as the Tumuaki of Te Rākau Ture, Auckland University Māori Law Student’s Association and Pou Mātauranga within Ngā Tauira Māori, the Māori Students’ Association of the University.

Puna Whakaata brings a refreshing and caring personality to the Mather Solutions whānau. She is based in our Tāmaki Makaurau Office.
